Entries are now open for Velothon Wales 2017. The popular sportive sees two routes for 2017, with a shorter 110km distance on offer alongside the standard 140km course.

The 2017 Velothon Wales will take place on Sunday 9th July 2017 and online entry opened today at midday. To book your place, visit the event website at velothon.ironman.com.

Velothon Wales 2017 will be the third year of the closed road event, one of the rare opportunities to ride without any traffic during the UK sportive calendar. Around 18,000 peple are expected to take part.

Riders on the new 110km route can skip the Tumble climb.

The 110km route will avoid the climb of The Tumble and will cut out nearly 950 metres of climbing that those doing the 140km have to face. However both routes will take in the Caerphilly hill, a short but sharp climb towards the end of the sportive.

Kevin Stewart, Managing Director of Ironman UK, said: "We are very much looking forward to welcoming cyclists of all levels to the event. Velothon Wales has established itself as one of the key sportives in the UK thanks to its closed roads, challenging route and stunning scenery.

"Together with the support of The Welsh Government, the local authorities and British and Welsh cycling we are working hard to deliver another hugely successful event."
