This weekend sees the final Monument of the road racing season as the Tour of Lombardy signals the traditional end of summer (and start of the cyclocross season - hurray!).
Considered to be one of the most prestigious one day events in the cycling calendar, the Giro di Lombardia also has a sportive attached, the Granfondo Lombardia. We'll be reporting on that next week; but in the meantime, the race has provided inspiration for the latest ashmei cycle capsule collection.
Comprising three pieces of kit fit for a stylish autumn ride, the new three-piece ashmei Lombardia Collection will be limited to just 112 items - signifying each of the years that the race has run.
The collection draws on Lombardy's nicknamed of the "Classica delle foglie morte" (the Falling Leaves Classic), with guest designer Radek Lukasiewicz weaving the iconic autumnal leaves into the collection's graphic imprints. The London-based Polish graphic and type designer has also created bespoke lettering to celebrate the race and the region's romantic culture, to be featured on a commemorative poster.
Radek explains the thinking behind the Lombardia design: "I was looking for an interesting way of celebrating this rich mixture of Italian culture, the Lombardy region and cycle racing. As someone who rides bikes and follows pro races, this project allowed me to combine a passion for cycling and design while having this great Italian Monument in the back of my head."
There are three pieces in the collection. The black Midlayer Jersey (£150), with distinctive yellow graphic detail of the falling leaves on the arm and the rear of the garment, features a highly-technical Merino wool blend and close to body fit to prevent any cold air penetrating through to the body.
The charcoal Gilet (£120) with reflective tonal graphic detailing on the rear is completely windproof, while ashmei claim the fabric's Durable Water Repellent (DWR) treatment will see to practically anything that the autumn weather can throw at you.
Completing the capsule collection is a classic black T-shirt. A wardrobe staple, yes - but for £80 you are getting a fabric that, ashmei say, excels at moisture control thanks to the use of their signature MERINO + CARBON blend.
The silk print poster is available to buy too, with an A1 print priced £30 or the A2 for £20.
