Set in classic Lakeland Mountain terrain this route will challenge the best climbers! For those who want to build up to the bigger route there is the shorter option. Starting from Coniston follow the road north to Ambleside and after this gentle warm up tackle The Struggle to the top of Kirkstone Pass. A fast descent follows and the route follows the shores of Ullswater to take in the climb of Dockray before turning west towards St. John’s in the Vale. The first feed at the head of Thirlmere signals the gentler climb of Dunmail Raise and continuing south to Grasmere and the little known climb of Red Bank. After a short descent the routes split with the shorter route climbing back over to the finish.
Those on the longer route turn west and head over the next main climb to Blea Tarn before the Queen of Lakeland Climbs: Wrynose Pass from the East! This is followed by the steep bends of Hardknott Pass and on into Eskdale and the second feed of the day. The route continues towards the west coast and before Muncaster Castle turns back and onto the longest climb - Corney Fell. Fast descents lead into the Duddon Valley and Ulpha then over Dunnerdale Fell and onto Broughton Moor before dropping swiftly down to Torver and the final few miles into the finish at Coniston.
