The route begins at John Ruskin School, in Coniston and heads south, through Torver before dropping into Woodland Valley. After a gentle warm up through the lanes take in the first climb of the day, a 120 metre steady pull towards Suberthwaite Common and finally Kirby Moor. Excellent views across the sea and a super fast descent make the climbing worth while, before the fast descent and climb over into Rusland Valley.
Eventually, cross the A590 to Haverthwaite, and a fast section out towards Cark - the furthest point of the route. The return journey begins with a very gentle climb to Cartmel and Newton (Feed Station). There follows one of the routes best descents - 3km of steady gradient through stunning woodland - to Bowland Bridge. The day’s main climb begins with a few alpine switchbacks, then a couple of testing ramps before levelling out at the summit at 240m. The descent leads to Newby Bridge for the last section along the west shores of Windermere. At Greythwaite Hall drop down to Cunsey to eventually join the B5285 at Far Sawrey and on to the shores of Esthwaite Water. A final loop past Wray Castle leads to Hawkshead Hill, the final climb of the day before a fast descent to the finish.
