Red Kite Events The Shropshire Devil 1 Sportive

The first of our spring classics returns for the 3rd year. A very popular event attracting riders from across the UK. An ideal start to the sportive season.

Entry - £20 early bird price (ends 14th Feb) or £25 pre entry upto midnight on the 12th March. Limited entry on the day £32.

The event will be based from Minsterley Village Hall, Minsterley, Near Shrewsbury.

The 48 mile route has a total of 1253 vertical metres of climbing, tackling the climbs of Long Mountain and Stiperstones.

The 80 mile route has a total of 2857 vertical metres of climbing, including the climbs of the Long Mountain, Anchor, New Invention, Burway and the Stiperstones.

Both routes will be taking in the gorgeous scenery of the Shropshire hills and Welsh Borders. The area is superb for cycling, with quiet roads and stunning views. The routes have been changed from 2014, we have taken out the steep rough road towards the end of both routes. GPX downloads are available by clicking on the links at the bottom of the page. Please be aware that the routes may change depending on the weather over the winter. However the routes will be very well marked and there will be maps at the event HQ and the feed stops.

We will have one food stop for the 48 mile and two for the 80 mile route. Both food stops will be in village halls with toilets etc. We believe we have some of the best feed stations on any event in the UK. These will be supplied as always by The Drovers Rest restaurant in Llanwrtyd Wells – expect delicious home-made cake, flapjack, welsh cakes, and savoury options, tea and coffee. The event is not a race and the feed stations are a big part of the event experience. We are also able to cater for food alergies - please let us know when you complete the booking in procedure.

Muc-Off will have their excellent lube and bike care products at the feed stations as well as at the event HQ.

We upgraded our timing system to a transponder system during the summer of 2014. It has proved to extremely accurate and has not let us down once in 10 plus events. Therefore your time will available online as soon as the event finishes. Full rider times will be emailed to all riders within 24 hours of the event finish and also published on www.cyclosport.org a few days after the event.

As always our backup team will be out on the routes with fully trained first aiders and a selection of spares. If needed we have a broom wagon which will collect you and bring you back to the HQ. Contact numbers will be provided in the rider briefings.
