With this year's Rat Race (12 September) cancelled because of coronavirus, the organisers are inviting people to complete the challenge virtually instead.
The event website explains:
"With COVID-19 wiping out the majority of running/cycling events this year we wanted to try and keep your spirits up, give you a goal and make sure all that training hasn’t gone to waste…and that the medals don’t either! We have 520 Coast to Coast 2020 medals* sat in a warehouse and we want to give YOU the chance to earn one!
Just sign up, run or walk 21 miles & cycle 84 miles between 1st September – 30th September (you can split the miles up how you wish over the month) and record it on a GPS app (such as Strava, Map My Ride, Runkeeper, Garmin etc) or take a picture of your treadmill/exercise bike stats and upload it to our virtual challenge portal here on completion.
To recreate the water section & final mile kayaking across Loch Levan we want you to get creative! Whether that’s a mile running/cycling in the rain, a dip in the sea, a swim in a lake or a mile on a kayak if you’re lucky enough to have one, we don’t mind!
This is an additional part to the challenge, but if you do it, upload your pics/videos to our Facebook page HERE & the most creative & entertaining ones will win £100 Rat Race Event Voucher!"
