Grindleford Goat

In 2013, the residents of Grindleford organised a new Cyclosportive event to raise funds for the Grindleford Community Shop: The Grindleford Goat. It took place in September as part of the inaugural Peak District Cycling Festival. The event raised £4,000 and has happened each year since then and raises an amazing £10,000. This is a major contribution towards the running of our vital community shop. Make sure you visit to see this quirky shop whilst you are in Grindleford.

The event is very popular, attracting over 400 riders of all ages.

It features two fully supported routes, and a challenging family ride, all starting and finishing in Grindleford so there will be opportunities for all abilities.

It’s called The Goat because they climb steep hills and eat a lot! It will have an Italian theme inspired by Nonnas of Sheffield providing a post-ride pasta meal.

The most challenging will be 108km featuring some of the most demanding climbs and exciting downhills in the Peak District. The mid route will be a tour of  54km suitable for reasonably fit adults and will take in some of our most stunning scenery and natural beauty. The third will be a challenging family route of about 8.5km which will take place on quiet roads and will include a beautiful 2km section on private roads linking Bank Top and Mag Clough farms.

Progress can be as quick (or slow) as you like. All the routes will incorporate opportunities for refreshments and other interesting diversions. We will provide a feed station on the two longer rides.

The rolling start will be preceded by quality espresso coffee, and local, dry-cured bacon on Ciabatta rolls / brie and mushroom on Derbyshire oatcakes (you can pre-order these when you register for the ride). Quality cakes will be available on all three routes and an optional Italian meal (sufficient to get you home!) will be available at the finish.

Entry limited to 500 participants. Costs will be kept as low as possible.
