Nix Biosensors, US-based providers of cutting-edge hydration monitoring technology, have today launched into Great Britain and Ireland.
Customers across the UK and Ireland can now purchase Nix's hydration biosensor directly online, marking the company's first direct to consumer expansion beyond the United States and Canada.

Nix's biosensor takes the form of a small arm patch which uses AI-enabled sensors to measure the user's fluid and electrolyte losses during exercise.
The data is transmitted to the accompanying app, allowing the user to generate a unique "Sweat profile" - their personal sweat composition and, consequently, allowing them to precisely tailor their rehydration strategy during efforts.
Sweat composition - measured as the proportion of electrolytes per oz of sweat - can vary drastically from one person to the next, with some athletes seeing their composition below 20 mg of electrolytes per oz of sweat while others are over 100 mg/oz.
"This further demonstrates how differently people sweat and how hydration strategies should be highly personalized for peak performance," say Nix.
"With this metric, you can begin to understand the best electrolyte drink you should be consuming based on your personal biology and training environment.
Nix say their personalised hydration recommendations are "based on real-time data that is unique to each user based on physiology, activity intensity, and environmental conditions", allowing users to optimise performance, recovery, and safety.

Want to know how much you're sweating in real time? You can set up the app to transmit data to your compatible watch or cycling computer during a ride, letting you know exactly when it's time to reach for an electrolyte boost.
You may already have spotted runners and cyclists wearing biosensors - they are rapidly being adopted in pro cycling, for example, with Nix supplying all members of Team EF Education Easypost with biosensors last year. The team uses Nix's newest app, Nix Pro, which allows coaches and managers to monitor multiple individuals on a single interface.

At the consumer level, individuals supporting their own hydration strategies are encouraged to use Nix's original app, Nix Solo.
"Our mission has always been to make hydration measurable, personalized, and accessible," said Meridith Cass, CEO and Founder of Nix.
"Since launching two years ago, we've consistently heard from athletes, coaches, and professionals across the UK who were eager to get their hands on our technology. That early interest helped us understand both the demand and the need to expand direct-to-consumer availability in the region.
"We're thrilled to now offer Nix to customers in the UK, where there's a strong culture of endurance sport, occupational safety, and innovation in human performance."

The Nix Biosensors Starter Kit will sell online in the UK for £149. The package includes a biosensor pod, four single-use patches, a charger case and cord.
We've just taken delivery of the Nix Biosensor so stay tuned for a review once we've had a chance to put it through its paces.
