Carbon Wasp Ltd has launched a new aero bar system to give riders the aerodynamic benefits and comfort of a customised aero bar - but with the adjustability to refine their riding position.

Designed, tested and manufactured in Yorkshire, the aero extensions are pitched as the ideal upgrade for any track, TT or Triathlon athlete looking for comfort and performance gains at an affordable price.

Easy to install and adaptable for use with Trek and Cervelo systems, the bars are available in UCI and non-UCI compliant versions with a fast two-week lead time.

The hand-made bars are available now at www.carbonwasp.com priced £795 for the full system.

While the name will be new to most cyclists, Carbon Wasp have been making custom aero bars under contract for other brands since 2018. Now they are offering their unique aero bar system under the Carbon Wasp brand, using the knowledge, experience and manufacturing craft developed over the past four years.

The key advantage of Carbon Wasp's offering is that their aero bars offer a high degree of adjustability, allowing riders to dial in their perfect position across a season or between bikes.

"Whilst there are potentially significant gains to be made from a custom aero bar set up, the biggest disadvantage is the lack of adjust-ability available with existing products on the market - either to allow a rider to tweak their position over time, or if they change bikes from season to season," say Carbon Wasp.

"We have been working with local riders at all levels across Triathlon and TT disciplines, from Club 10 heroes all the way up to Olympians, allowing us to develop an adjustable system to fit most bikes and optimise any rider's position."

The result is an aero bar system that has already earned plaudits from athletes performing at the top level.

"I have been using the Carbon Wasp Aero Extension System for a number of years now and I am super impressed with the performance," says Adam Duggleby MBE.

"They're lighter and cheaper than some other bars and have more adjustability!" enthuses the Paralympic gold medalist and BBAR champion.

"They fit on to almost any base bar and are really clean and aero on the bike. They helped me get a position I couldn't have got with the standard skis making me more aero, comfortable and most importantly faster.

"I have used Carbon Wasp bars for races up to 12hrs, the choice of arm supports give you option to swap for different length events which has helped me. I would definitely recommend them, especially if you're looking to make your position longer or your current bars aren't adjustable enough to get the position you want."

"We are delighted to launch our own aero bar system, working with athletes and as a team of riders we always get asked to design and manufacture products that offer real benefits in the saddle," says Carbon Wasp chief designer, Adrian Smith.

"The adjustability in the aero bar system enables riders to tweak riding positions and offers future proofing if you change your bike or set up. Manufacturing in the UK and with complete freedom of design and development, means we have no constraints and can develop unique and considered products swiftly."

Too fast for the UCI

The Carbon Wasp standard aero bars are available in two versions: a Non-UCI model, offering greater comfort and aero advantages outside the restrictive UCI rules, or a UCI compliant version, optimised to give the most aerodynamic position within the UCI rules.

The range of adjustment is the same for both bars. Features include:

  • Angle from horizontal (infinitely) adjustable from 0 - 30deg
  • Length: adjustable from 280mm - 374mm (from rear base bar bolt hole to end of tips) - or longer with an adapter plate
  • Angle from centreline (toe-in) adjustable from parallel to tips touching
  • Arm rests: two positions (or custom drill to fine tune)
  • Tips compatible with Shimano/SRAM shifters with internal cable routing and space inside for junction box (eTap blip box fits inside Non-UCI version)
  • 2 arm rest options, 'U' shaped or 'L' shaped
  • Optional Garmin/Wahoo mount

There is also scope to further customise the spec of the bars to suit.

The bars are available to order now at www.carbonwasp.com, or contact Carbon Wasp for more details: [email protected] or call 0844 357 3871.
