Cycling tech giant Garmin is to host a virtual ride out to raise funds for Action Medical Research's Covid-19 Children's Appeal.

Cyclists can either "Ride In" on Zwift alongside a top pro cyclist or "Ride Out" across the UK to secure an exclusive Garmin Connect Badge on Strava.

Garmin is to host its annual Garmin Ride Out virtually this year, inviting cyclists to "Ride In" or "Ride Out" between 29th October and 1st November to support Action Medical Research's COVID-19 Children's Appeal.

The first 1000 cyclists to donate will get an exclusive Garmin goody-box, with prizes up for grabs in the Ride Out raffle.

Garmin Virtual Ride In

Hosted on Zwift at 6pm GMT on 29th October, Garmin's Virtual Ride In will see cyclists riding alongside a pro-rider from a world class team.

Any participants who log a one-hour indoor ride on Garmin Connect will receive an exclusive Garmin Connect Badge to commemorate the event.

Garmin Virtual Ride Out

For riders looking for an outdoor challenge, Garmin's Virtual Ride Out will see cyclists ride either a 22-mile or 52-mile ride anywhere across the UK between 30th October and 1st November.

There are two exclusive Garmin Connect Badges up for grabs: one for riders who complete and log the 22-mile distance and one for riders who complete and log the 52-mile distance.

"2020 marks ten years of Garmin Ride Out, and while the event takes a new form this year, Garmin is proud to continue its legacy," says Jon Oliver, Managing Director of Garmin UK & Ireland.

"This year has been anything but ordinary, but we hope people will still get on their bikes to show their support for Action's life changing work with children, either by cruising around Watopia or tackling the open roads."

The Garmin Virtual Ride Out will support Action Medical Research's COVID-19 Children's Research Appeal. All funds raised from the event will go towards better understanding how the virus impacts children, and to understanding how best to protect them against the impact of the pandemic.

"We simply don't know enough about how COVID-19 affects children - why some children become so ill and others don't or what the impact of the pandemic might be on children's mental health. With only approximately 15% of research in the UK focusing on children and COVID-19, there's a big gap. Medical research is urgently needed," says Sarah Stevenson, Senior Partnership Development Manager at Action Medical Research.

"All funds raised from the Garmin Virtual Ride Out will go towards funding research to help find the answers we need, helping to protect future generations of children."

To thank riders for their support, the first 1000 donors will receive a Garmin goody-box filled with cycling goodies including Tacx® water bottles, bike stickers, seat covers and more. Donations can be made at action.org.uk/events/cycling/garmin-virtual-ride-out/donate.
