One of Europe's most popular closed-road sportives - and for good reason, it's an absolute stunner - the Mallorca 312-Giant-Taiwan will celebrate its 11th edition next year.

While most riders are drawn to the challenge of the 312km course that gives the sportive its name, the event is accessible to riders of all experience levels.

Shorter routes of 225 and 167 kilometres are on offer - and while the "short" course, at over 100 miles in length, is still a formidable challenge, the closed roads, beautiful scenery and first-class support mean it's a challenge within reach of most reasonably fit cyclists.

Here's a quick look at the figures for the three routes:

  • Mallorca 312: 312km - 5050m elevation
  • Mallorca 225: 225km - 3973m elevation
  • Mallorca 167: 167km - 2475m elevation

Starting at sea level in the cycling-dominated resort of Playa de Muro, the routes climb up Coll Puig Major, scrambling up cliffs and passing through the Serra de Tramuntana mountains with cyclists enjoying a festival atmosphere as they roll through picturesque villages perched in the coastal cliffs before returning through the verdant agricultural heart of the island.

Entry is priced €85. This includes an event jersey, which in recent years has been one of the more stylish sportive designs on offer - you'll see riders out and about throughout the year in their Mallorca 312 kit.

If you're looking for a package, various tour operators offer accommodation, transfers and entry - we travelled with All Things Ride this year and would highly recommend.

Group dinners and social rides really add to the experience, and having ridden the event solo in the past I appreciated the chance to socialise both before and during the ride itself.

Finally, a quick warning - all 8000 entries to the 2019 edition sold out within a week, so if Mallorca 312 is on your list for 2020 don't delay!

The Milestone Series

As we reported earlier this year, 2020 will see the launch of two new sportives by the organisers of the Mallorca 312. The Eifel 205 (22 August) and Båstad 198 (13 September) will take place in Germany and Sweden respectively, run to a similar formula as the Mallorca 312 with challenging routes on closed roads.

Together with the Mallorca 312 and a UK edition in 2021 (details as yet unconfirmed), the four events will be known as the Milestone Series, expanding the success of the Mallorca 312 into what looks set to be a leading sportive franchise.

Entries to all three 2020 Milestone Series sportives are open now, with a discount of 10% offered if you enter a second event or 20% if you enter all three.

You can find out more and enter at milestoneseries.cc.
