Organisers of Velo Birmingham & Midlands have announced plans to release further entries for the sold out sportive, which takes place on 12 May 2019.

The additional places will offer more people a chance to ride what was already one of the UK's biggest cycling events with up to 17,000 cyclists expected. Entries will go on sale in the new year at a date still to be confirmed. In the meantime, prospective riders can join a waiting list via the Velo Birmingham website.

The news came alongside the official launch of the course for the revamped closed roads sportive. While the route itself doesn't appear to have changed much from the course map released some months back (above), cyclists can now explore the route using an interactive map on the event website.

The organisers have also published a description of some of the highlights awaiting riders on the 100-mile course:

Starting and finishing in the heart of Birmingham City Centre, our new and improved 100 mile fully closed road route will take 17,000 riders on a truly unforgettable tour of the Midlands.

Riders will encounter stunning countryside, panoramic views, picturesque villages and iconic climbs... not to mention the tens of thousands of residents lining the streets to cheer the riders on!

A major highlight of the 2019 route comes around mile 40 when riders will pass right through the heart of Coventry - UK City of Culture 2021. Cycling on the cobbled streets of the historic Coventry Cathedral in front of thousands of supporters will be a truly unique experience and will make you feel as though you're riding in the pro peloton!

With c.1,500m of climbing, the route is fairly undulating with a few climbs to navigate on the day, but with the right training and a can-do attitude, this is a challenge that anyone will be able to complete!
