Thieves have raided over £50,000 worth of Pinarello bikes and kit from a Team Wiggins van ahead of yesterday's Velothon Wales race. Three Pinarello Dogmas, a Bolide TT bike and several sets of Zipp 404 wheels were stolen from the team's hotel car park in Cardiff on Saturday night.

The break in was discovered by a team mechanic on Sunday morning, just hours before the team was due to take part in the Velothon. Posts on Team Wiggins' facebook and Twitter feeds asked for help tracing the stolen bikes, which were team spares.

Despite the theft Team Wiggins were still able to race the Velothon, albeit without spare bikes for three of the team. Their best placed rider was Christopher Latham, who finished just off the podium in fourth place after taking part in an 11-man break. The race was won by Ian Bibby (JLT Condor).

Team Wiggins was set up by Olympian and Tour de France winner Sir Bradley Wiggins in 2015 ahead of the Rio Olympics, and features a roster of up-and-coming British cycling talent.
