LONDON, UK - London's first Keirin Festival will be held at Herne Hill Velodrome on Sunday 26 August. The event will feature a mix of Japanese-style and UCI-style keirin racing.
The event, which is supported by uber-trendy Soho bike shop and frame builders Tokyo Fixed, builds on the success of Team GB in the Olympic kierin races, in which Sir Chris Hoy won the gold at the Stratford velodrome.
Confirmed riders include Peter Mitchell (team V-Sprint) and GB Academy riders Dave Daniell, Kian Emadi, John Paul, Lewis Oliva, Callum Skinner and Victoria Williamson as well as Dutch rider Michael Veen. Entries are still being taken and even novices are invited to try, although they must have proven track experience.
Spectators are invited to Herne Hill Velodrome for free and there will be £1600 of prizes up for grabs, including items from Tokyo Fixed, who import many of their bikes from Japan, as well as clothes by Ananichoola and Morvelo.
There will be a bar, food stalls, bike stalls and a lottery style draw based on rider numbers in the various races.
Herne Hill Velodrome is at 104 Burbage Road, Herne Hill, London, SE249HE and the event website is at www.keirin.cc
