This year's Wiggle South Downs 100 Sportive will for the first time feature a closed road hill climb, say organisers UK Cycling Events.

All three routes will now include a timed hill climb up Butser Hill, at 195m one of the highest point in the South Downs. The closed road section will feature music, cowbells and "some crazy supporters" to encourage riders up this challenging climb.

Prizes will be awarded to the 'King of the Mountain' and the next two quickest riders will also receive prizes for their efforts.

The 100-mile sportive takes place in Chichester on 19 October and includes some of the finest roads and climbs in the South Downs, including Old Winchester and Uppark Hills.

Now in its sixth year, the South Downs 100 attracted over 2500 riders in 2013 and, say organisers, offers a "great chance to test out your legs before winter kicks in and the sportive season cools down."

In addition to the 'Epic' 100 mile route, there is a 'Standard' 73 mile and a 'Short' 42 mile route. Everyone who enters before 21 September will be included in a draw to win £150 of Muc-Off products.
