CREWE, Cheshire - The Cheshire Cat sportive has been moved to 7 July 2013 after organisers decided that it was too cold, snowy and dangerous for it to take place on 24 March.
The sold out event has 100 mile, 62 mile and 30 mile routes and locals said it would have been "totally crazy" to try and run the sportive given the prevailing conditions. One local rider said: "It would definitely have been dangerous and could even have been life threatening to send people out in this weather".
Organisers Kilo To Go said they were invoking clause 11 of their terms and conditions on "health and safety grounds" and that riders would be emailed with details about the event's rescheduling for 7 July.
That email told riders that if they could not make the 7 July event then they could instead ride the Shropshire Mynd sportive which takes place on 15th September.
Some riders expressed annoyance that they could not get a full refund for the event, although other entrants pointed out that the terms and conditions of the sportive allowed organisers to switch dates on safety reasons and that it is far from guaranteed that Britain will have good weather in late March.
