Now in its fifth year, Red Bull Timelaps has become well established as the world's longest one-day road bike challenge. Seeing hundreds of riders take full advantage of the clocks going back, the event pushes teams and solo riders to their physical and mental limits by racing for a whopping 25 hours.

Previously held on a closed circuit at Windsor Great Park, this year's edition will once again take place as a virtual challenge because of the pandemic - opening up the number of participants that can take part, eradicating travel to and from an event location and connecting friends up and down the country.

Teams of four and solo riders are pitted against each other and the clock, and challenged to accumulate as much distance as possible over the weekend the clocks go back. In a twist, the Continental ‘Power Hour’ is activated when 02:00 becomes 01:00 again and riders’ efforts are doubled for 60 minutes, helping boost their place on the 25-hour-long race’s leaderboard.

You can take part from anywhere in the UK by collectively logging your distance on Strava, which will be populated into leaderboards during the event live so you can track your position.

This year, we are splitting the competition across virtual/indoors and outdoor rides so that you can compare your efforts against those taking part in the same settings. We will also be breaking categories down by Male, Female, Mixed, Under 25s, and Solo.

Working in partnership with the social network for athletes, Strava, participants will be able to sign up to the challenge for free from 28 days before the event and must register themselves or their team via RedBull.com.

Activities from the virtual cycle challenge can then be uploaded upon completion from any GPS computer or indoor riding platform. A live leaderboard will be available at RedBull.co.uk/timelaps, allowing participants to check how they're faring against friends and fellow competitors.

As in previous years, riders will be able to access a range of useful tips ahead of the challenge on RedBull.com. With expert advice on cycle nutrition, training, and equipment such as the best turbo trainers and indoor bikes, participants will be fully prepared for their toughest challenge yet.
