Entry is now open for the second running of this early season weekend of rides to get the legs moving in preparation for the tougher rides ahead. The value for money weekend offers a choice of two rides each day heading south over the border into Cumbria and Northumberland on Saturday and Sunday uses two Scottish routes to the north. Enter one day (£18) or both days (£30) with the option of changing your route on the day depending how your legs feel.
The events are brought to you by mtb endurance specialists SIP Events with a wealth of experience as event organisers and sportive riders. The weekend will offer the organisational quality riders have come to expect from highly rated sportives but at a lower price - the only thing we’ve compromised on is electronic timing, there isn’t any. And for the normal price of one ride, you get two days of fantastic riding with up to 160 miles of supported and marked routes available.
All routes will start in the centre of the small village of Newcastleton in the Scottish Borders and use the quiet, almost traffic free roads in this stunning, often overlooked area of the British countryside.
Saturday provides the choice of a 45 mile or 90 mile route heading south over the border into England and around the roads of Cumbria and Northumberland with the long route winding along the shore of Kielder Reservoir.
The 50 miles and 75 mile route options on Sunday head north out of the village following the new routes officially known as the Southern Borders Loops. The roads are extremely quiet, especially on a Sunday, and produce spectacular views as a reward for long, gradual climbs before embarking of some of the longest, sweetest descents in the area.
There’ll be feed stations on the routes stocked with Accelerade energy drink amongst other things, mechanical assistance and a broom wagon are also provided. The routes will be well signposted with directional, information and caution signs so all you have to do is ride safely and enjoy yourselves!
There’s plenty of excellent accommodation in the village and the event has the full support of the local businesses and villagers so you’ll be in for a warm welcome.
Event registration will take place on Saturday morning in the village hall with hot food and drinks, changing rooms, toilets and showers also available.
