Entrie are now open for the next edition of the Mallorca 312 sportive, which takes place on 27 April 2019.

One of Europe's largest and most popular closed-road sportives, the Mallorca 312-Giant-Taiwan iwill celebrate its 10th birthday in 2019.

Earlier editions of the sportive saw riders tackle a whole lap of the island, with just 200 participants. In recent years the course has been revamped and numbers have soared as word spread about the monster early season challenge on the beautiful roads of Mallorca. This year 59 nationalities, were represented, and the peloton has been headed by cycling stars including Miguel Indurain, Pedro Delgado, Óscar Freire, Sean Kelly, Joaquím 'Purito' Rodríguez, Óscar Pereiro, Joseba Beloki and Pedro Horrillo.

While the main feature is the 312 course that gives the sportive its name, part of the strength of the Mallorca 312 is its accessibility to riders of all experience levels. Shorter routes of 225 and 167 kilometres are on offer - and while the "short" course, at over 100 miles in length, is still a formidable challenge, the closed roads, beautiful scenery and exemplary support mean it's a challenge within reach of most reasonably fit cyclists.

Starting at sea level in the cycling-dominated resort of Playa de Muro, the routes climb up Coll Puig Major, scrambling up cliffs and passing through the Serra de Tramuntana mountains with cyclists enjoying a festival atmosphere as they roll through picturesque villages perched in the coastal cliffs before returning through the verdant agricultural heart of the island.

For 2019 the organisers are promising a very special edition to mark the 10th anniversary, with surprises to be unveiled in coming months.

Registration for the 2019 edition is now open, with entry priced €80. This includes an event jersey that in recent years is one of the more stylish sportive designs on offer.

Numerous package and accommodation options are on offer at the event website, but it's also quite simple to book your own arrangements. Check out our report on riding the 2016 edition, including staying in a bell tent, here.
