A cyclist has been hospitalised following a collision with a coach on Sunday's Tour de Yorkshire Ride sportive.

Police officers said a male cyclist and a Scania light green and yellow coach were involved in the collision at around 11:15am yesterday on Finkley Street Lane at the junction with Plankgate, Deepcar. The cyclist is understood to have sustained serious injuries.

Roads were open to traffic on the sportive, which followed much of the route of the final stage of the Tour de Yorkshire pro race on the same day. The incident took place near the finish of the sportive's 105km long route, with Deepcar situated just a mile from the event headquarters at Fox Valley, Sheffield.

South Yorkshire Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision to call 101 or email [email protected] quoting incident number 472 of April 30, 2017.
