Calling all masochists and off-season armchair heroes! Set your alarm early for Friday 3rd February, when entries will open for the newest event from the Struggle sportive series.

Taking place on Sunday 9th July 2017 from Ampleforth, Struggle The Moors is a brand new sportive for 2017 that takes in 3,319 metres of climbing (that's over 10,000 feet!) over 109 miles.

The new event is a sister sportive to The Struggle, which is set in the Yorkshire Dales. While that sportive is already hard enough to make it onto many people's top 10 lists of UK cycling challenges, Struggle The Moors looks set to be even tougher.

'Call this a struggle? In my day we'd ride this on a fixie. And then do a full day's work down t'pits...'
'Call this a struggle? In my day we'd ride this on a fixie. And then do a full day's work down t'pits...'

The route includes notorious Yorkshire Moors climbs such as the vertical walls that are Boltby Bank and Carlton Bank, the exposed Cote de Grosmont (as seen in the Tour de Yorkshire 2016) and the aptly name Glaisdale Horror. And finally, with 90 miles in your legs, how about a crack at the infamous Rosedale Chimney Bank?

"The Yorkshire Dales are your rolling hills, your picturesque landscapes and your quaint cafe stops," explains Struggle Events director Matthew Mannakee, suppressing a sadistic grin. "The Yorkshire Moors are steeper, bleaker, more exposed and fearfully isolated."

To rub salt into the wounds, between your categorised climbs you'll find relentlessly undulating roads and some uncategorised stings in the tail.

With only 500 places available, riders are urged to pre-register now at www.ridethestruggle.com. And then start training...
