Virtual Tour de Furness

This year's Lakeland Tour de Furness charity cycle event is being replaced by a virtual ride because of coronavirus.

Running throughout the month of September, participants are invited to ride at home on their exercise bike or turbo trainer, or outdoors on a route of their own choosing - just don't forget to fundraise via the event's Virgin Money Giving site!

About the Tour de Furness

Organised by the Rotary Club of Furness to raise money for St Mary’s Hospice as well as others, the idea of the Lakeland Tour de Furness is to get cyclists of all abilities joining in to have fun and raise money for charities of their choice.

There are 4 rides of 50, 23, 11 and 5 miles all of which start in Barrow in Furness and pass through some wonderful scenery in Lakeland and the South Lakes. 

The Lakeland Bluebird 50 follows country lanes to Ulverston and travels through lovely countryside along the western shore of Coniston Water, through Coniston and south down the eastern side of the lake returning to Barrow in Furness taking in some of the most beautiful views in Cumbria.

The South Lakes Birkrigg 23 follows the Morecambe Bay Coast Road to Bardsea and the travels to Great Urswick passing over Birkrigg Common with great views to your right of Coniston and the Lakeland Fells. Then on to Scales and past Gleaston Castle and the Watermill and then to Leece where it joins the 11 mile route through Furness Abbey.

The South Lakes Tour de Furness 11 should appeal to family groups and the leisure cyclist. It passes along interesting areas of coastline and through attractive countryside, visiting the Vale of Nightshade where the ruins of Furness Abbey are found.

The Family Fun Ride is a 5 mile route which follows an old railway line and coastal cycle path to Rampside.

The Fun Ride is free for children but £20 for adults.
