Entries open today for the 14th edition of the Alé La Merckx Granfondo. Based in Verona, the granfondo takes place on Sunday 6 June and features an ascent of the famous Torricelle climb.

After the cancellation of the 2020 edition due to the pandemic, the organisers of the Veronese granfondo say they are restarting "with more energy than ever and the goal of making the 2021 event unique and unforgettable."

The popular sportive attracts 2500 riders to Verona every year from all over the world, with celebrity riders including Mario Cipollini and Eddy Merckx himself also known to take the start line.

Two routes have been confirmed: the 129km long-distance race with an elevation gain of 2,600m, and the 82km medium-distance race with 1,450m elevation gain.

Entries are priced €40 until 30 April, rising to €50 until 31 May and €60 for entries received between 1-5 June 2021.
