There's very little that author and grimpeur Simon Warren doesn't know about cycling up hills - and he's been kind enough to share that wisdom in his popular Greatest Climbs series. But Simon is just the latest of UK cycling legends including David Millar, Stephen Roche and Luke Rowe, to dub the Chiltern Hills an "Area of Outstanding Natural Brutality".

All the hills in loving detail: Simon hones in on the climbs of the Chiltern 100.

This May, Simon has released an exclusive e-book detailing the 10 key climbs for the Chiltern 100 Cycling Festival. Riders tackling the Gran Fondo route (161km), will take on 2,085m of vertical climbing, ranging from longer, steady climbs to the punchy 25% gradients of The Crong, and the infamous Whiteleaf and Wardrobes.

Simon says: "You may imagine the Chilterns as just an innocuous set of undulations, but this is the perfect ride if you're craving hills. With very little in the way of flat, you're constantly being tested, your legs repeatedly pummelled by the perpetual barrage of ascents which start after 10 kilometres with Frith Hill."

The Chiltern Cycling Festival and sportive transports riders into some of the most beautiful and challenging riding to be found within an hour of London. Starting and finishing on the majestic lawns of Penn House, Amersham, on Sunday 15 July, it offers the perfect summer Sunday for cyclists and vintage cycling aficionados.

After the sportive, riders can relax on the lawns, enjoy the vintage cycling festival, sample local food and ales, and watch Stage 9 of Le Tour de France live on the giant screen. With family rides and live music throughout the day, it's a fantastic summer's day out for the whole family.

Needless to say, Simon will be riding the Gran Fondo at the Chiltern 100 Cycling Festival - why not come along and say hello?
