The Marie Curie Etape Caledonia has announced that Boardman Bikes, the company founded by former Olympic Champion and World Record holder Chris Boardman, will be the Official Bike Partner for the 2016 edition of the sportive which takes place on 8 May.

The Etape Caledonia celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. The event, which is organised by IMG, was the UK's first ever closed-road sportive and is one of the most eagerly-awaited events in the Scottish cycling calendar. Its challenging route, breathtaking views and incredible atmosphere make it a must-do for any keen cyclist.

Boardman, who won gold at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, launched Boardman Bikes in 2007. The brand has gone from strength to strength since, now sponsoring world-class riders and teams and winning multiple Olympic, World, European and National Champion titles.

The company has recently teamed up with Alpine Bikes, the biggest independent retailer in Scotland, alongside Halfords and other specialist retailers.

Commenting on the partnership, Boardman said: "The Marie Curie Etape Caledonia boasts some of the most spectacular scenery in the UK, guaranteed, and it can all be enjoyed on fully closed roads. Combined with the warm and friendly hostelries of Pitlochry, it's a unique and wonderful weekend for all the family."

Andy Knee of IMG commented: "The Marie Curie Etape Caledonia is proud to be supported by fantastic partners who, along with the local communities of Perthshire, play a major role in making this iconic event such a major success. We're delighted to be adding a cycling legend like Chris and his fantastic team at Boardman Bikes to that list of partners and are looking forward to working with them in 2016."
