An 18-year-old cyclist was rescued from under a car following a collision at the Wiggle Cotswolds Sportive on Saturday.

The Western Daily Press reports that 15 people lifted the car, an Audi A3, to free the cyclist following a serious incident at around 10am in the Cotswold village of Guiting Power.

Firefighters were also sent to the scene. The injured cyclist was freed by locals, say police. He was airlifted to Bristol's Southmead hospital where he is fighting for his life.

The Wiggle Cotswolds Sportive is based at Cheltenham Racecourse with a choice of 100-mile, 75-mile and 40-mile routes through the rolling Cotswolds countryside.

Gloucestershire Police would like to hear from any witnesses to the incident who have not already spoken to officers.
