EUROBIKE 2015 is the largest trade cycling show in the world and sees around 50,000 people in the cycling industry descend on Friedrichshafen, a small town on the shores of the Bodensee (Lake Constance) on the edge of the Alps.

It is hard to describe the scale of the Eurobike show. It is held in the Messe (exhibition halls) about 4km outside the centre of Friedrichshafen, the home of the famous Zepellin airships. In 2014 there were 12 vast halls of exhibitors with roughly 1,380 companies showing their wares. Everyone from the big name cycle manufacturers such as Giant, Pinarello, Colnago and Raleigh have huge stands, alongside niche manufacturers, a huge array of e-bikes, specialist clothing manufacturers and so on. Basically, the entire world of cycling-related suppliers is at Eurobike.

Extra Information

Eurobike is a trade only show apart from on the Saturday when it is open to the general public. Admission costs 25 euros for the day in advance or 34 euros at the ticket office.

The week starts with a Demo Day, which is trade only, where journalists and cycle enthusiasts can test out the latest models of cycles from roughly 80 different manufacturers. The emphasis in 2014 was mainly on mountain bikes and it attracted 2,642 trade visitors and 784 journalists.

The main focus for the industry is however on the Wednesday to Friday of the show where hundreds of thousands of meetings are held between suppliers and buyers and where more cycling product launches take place than anywhere else in the world. This really is the time where manufacturers show off their new ranges for the following year and try and get cycle shops and trade distributors excited about their stock.

For many people the first visit to Eurobike is overwhelming and it is amazing even for the experienced cycling fan to see so many massive cycling brands that you have never previously heard of. For those who are either in the industry and need to meet as many contacts (especially from Taiwan) in as short a time as possible, Eurobike is a 'must attend' show; for enthusiasts it is a massive glimpse into a huge and complex industry, although you need to be aware that nothing is actually on sale at Eurobike and it really is just a chance to look at new products rather than have them demonstrated or try them out if you attend on the Saturday.
