Now in its 2nd year, the UK's first ever closed road, competitive Gran Fondo event returns with a total course length of 132km.

At last, the chance to ride a real continental style closed road Gran Fondo in the UK. Many sportives in the UK describe themselves as Gran Fondos, but the Tour of Cambridgeshire is the only one with the two important elements:

  • Closed roads
  • A race at the front of the field with timed winners

The Tour Of Cambridgeshire is unlike any other mass participation event in the UK. Uniquely the event caters for everyone whether you are an elite racer, an athletic sports rider, a challenge rider, or just out to test yourself in a more leisurely way on your bike, on closed roads, around the stunning Cambridgeshire countryside.

The 132km event will start and finish from the Peterborough Arena with the course heading out in to the scenic Cambridgeshire countryside over unique terrain before returning. If you are racing it offers some of the most challenging riding in the UK, very similar to Belgium with some short sharp climbs at the start followed by the wide open roads of the Fens. A unique opportunity to echelon in safety and ride in a technically challenging environment.

If you are out for the closed road/leisure ride experience you will travel through some wonderful countryside and villages before taking on the challenge of Belgium style riding to the finish. There will be two feed stops along the way and the race will be supported with mechanical assistance and medical cover. Please note you will be expected to maintain a speed of approximately 12 mph if you are passed by the broom wagon you may continue along the route but you are then on open roads and must ride accordingly complying with the highway code.

The event will also be the first in the UK to offer wild card entries to the UWCT (UCI World Cycling Tour - the amateur world championships where anyone who has qualified can ride for a world championship jersey) world Championships.

The UCWT events attract the top riders in the world making this your chance to race against them in the same event on the same road. You will be treated in the same way and be able to ride like a pro. Alternatively you can enjoy the atmosphere and the freedom of a closed road mass participation event.

Excellent prize money will be offered on an equal basis to men and woman and across all age categories.

There are 8 age categories for men and woman – drafting is permitted and age category groups may merge. At the finish of the race you will be asked to divert if you are not at the front of the race for your age category in order that a clean sprint between the contenders can occur.
