Unashamedly based on the route of Ilkley Cycling Club’s brilliiant annual sportive ride in the summer, the White Rose Classic, this ride covers much of the same ground, but throws in the awesome climb of the cote de Arncliffe. The ride measures a few miles short of the ‘medium’ route, so is a great way to test yourself ahead of the White Rose Classic itself, being hed on 24th June 2018.
After a steady 7 mile warm up comes 1 mile of climbing up Norwood Edge followed by a steady descent to scenic Swinsty Reservoir. You then wind your way through a series of short climbs to the top of Greenhow Hill, then along the moor towards Grassington where the view up Wharfedale and beyond to Pen Y Ghent comes itno your sights. After a short stretch up the Wharfe Valley turn left into Littondale and prepare yourself for the Cote de Arncliffe. The reward at the top is a breathtaking view to your left as well as one of the smoothest sections of tarmac in the Yorkshire Dales ... an absolute joy! Pass Malham Tarn on your left then take the quieter and less twisty descent into Malham village. The route returns to the Wharfe Valley via the ‘rolling road’ to Hetton and Cracoe ready for the final infamous climb of ‘Langbar’.

About YVT Challenge Rides
Put simply, one Saturday each month from March to September we are hosting a fully supported classic day ride. The routes are incredibly varied with each one having its own very distinct character to show off the wide variety of terrain and scenery in the Yorkshire Dales and South Pennines.
The rides are an exclusive individual guided and supported experience similar to ‘sportive’ ride in that there is a set route, but are not timed. What you get over and above a typical sportive is a pre-ride bike check, a support vehicle and team mechanic, the benefit of riding in a small group with your own dedicated ride leader and a top café stop. The rides are a great way of exploring new territory in safe hands of YVT and will be of interest to local riders as well as visitors to the area. We guarantee to give you an epic day out that will last long in your memory! If you are concerned about running out of energy on the ride, there are up to 5 spaces available in the support vehicle, so you can hop on board if necessary.
