Yes the January days might still be cold and grey, but now's the time to start looking ahead to your summer cycling challenges. And if you're looking for something within easy striking distance of London, the Chiltern 100 Cycling Festival - combining a tough sportive and a vintage cycling festival - could be the ideal summer party to motivate your winter training.

Entries are now open for the Chiltern 100 Cycling Festival, which takes place on Sunday 15 July at Penn House country estate, near Amersham, just one hour from London. The 161km Gran Fondo is famed for its 21 gruelling hills, including the infamous climbs of 'Wardrobes' and 'Whiteleaf'.

With two shorter distances on offer (125km and 52km) the Chiltern 100 Sportive ensures that cyclists of all levels can enjoy the spectacular riding within the Chiltern Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The new event website features detailed route maps and a fresh brand look and feel, reflecting developments to an event long established as a firm favourite in the UK sportive calendar.

Combining the testing Chiltern 100 Sportive with cycling-themed stalls and entertainment in the retro-inspired Velo Village, the Chiltern 100 Cycling Festival offers a full family day out, with something for everyone. Riders can relax on the expansive lawns of Penn House, and enjoy food, craft beers and live coverage of Stage 9 of Le Tour de France on the giant outdoor screen. Among the most highly anticipated stages of the 2018 Tour, the Arras to Roubaix route takes in 15 cobbled sections.

New for 2018, the Chiltern 100 Cycling Festival will also offer exclusive Premium and VIP packages, for those looking to add that extra touch to their day of summer cycling. As well as the free glass of bubbles and bespoke finishers medal, those opting for the VIP Pave Package will enjoy a bike wash, unique Castelli event jersey and premium seats for Le Tour de France screening.

Nick Rusling, CEO of event organisers Human Race, says; "We are excited to be building on an event that is already so well received. This is the perfect day summer's day out for cyclists and their families and probably the best place outside of France to enjoy Le Tour. It's a must-do for your 2018 diary."

Action4Youth are back as the Official Charity for the event in 2018. The charity provides young people of all abilities and disabilities with transformational learning experiences that build resilience, self-confidence and personal esteem and to challenge themselves and work with others - learning what they can achieve rather than what they can't, better preparing them for life and work. From 16 January 2018, Action4Youth are offering the chance to secure a place for just £1 when you commit to raise at least £200 for the charity.
