If you missed out on a place in this year's Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100, consolation is at hand. Ballot entries are now open for RideLondon 46, the shorter version of the sportive which takes place the same day on Sunday 30 July 2017.

As the name suggests, the 46 is RideLondon 100's little sister, offering cyclists a chance to experience the thrills of cycling through London on closed roads on a 46-mile course.

You can still experience traffic-free roads this July on the RideLondon-Surrey 46.

The 46 is perfect for newer or younger cyclists, or anyone not sure they're ready to tackle a century. Starting from the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the route follows that of the RideLondon 100 for the first 27 miles, before taking a two-mile shortcut at Thames Ditton and rejoining for the final 17 miles to finish on the Mall.

Another advantage is that you'll finish sooner, leaving more time to scope out a vantage point at the finish line for the pro race.

Entry costs £39, and the ballot is open until 17:00 on Friday 12 May.
