German brand Canyon have today launched the Ultimate CF EVO, a superlight model of their range-topping Ultimate race bike. And weight-weenies are in for a treat when they check out the spec and weight of the new builds...

The new Ultimate CF EVO frame weighs just 665 grams, with the accompanying fork tipping the scales at 290g. The frameset is available to buy in two builds, with the lighter 10.0 SL version weighing in at just 4.96kg.

The 10.0 SL build is based on SRAM's Red groupset but some modifications have been made to reduce the weight still further. Braking is courtesy of THM's Carbones Fibula calipers with Tune brake shoes weighing 120g per brake, while the SRAM Red crankset is replaced by a THM Clavicula set with a weight of 302g.

In a break from Canyon's standard specification of 52/36 chainsets, the Ultimate CF EVO is fitted with compact 50/34 chainrings - perhaps a necessary ploy to reach the headline sub-5kg weight for the entire bike.

The wheels are supplied by Canyon's fellow countrymen at Lightweight, whose Meilenstein Obermayer tubulars weigh in at a claimed 935g for the pair.

The build is available to purchase immediately in six sizes, from 2XS to 2XL, with a price tag of £8,999.

Ultimate CF EVO 10.0: SRAM E-Tap and built-in SRM power meter

Although the 10.0 SL build is the lightest available, it is in fact the cheaper of the two options. The Ultimate CF EVO 10.0 Ltd model weighs in at a relatively beefy(!) 5.8kg, with the most notable difference to its lighter sibling being the use of SRAM eTap shifting and the inclusion of an SRM power meter in the THM crankset.

Those chainrings, incidentally, are 52/36 and this build also uses SRAM Red brakes rather than the gram-pinching THM stoppers.

Wheels again come from Lightweight but are the slightly heavier - it's all relative - and more practical clincher version of the Meilensteins. Mind, at 1100g for the pair they're not exactly porky.

This 10.0 Ltd version of the build will set you back £11,599.

The Ultimate CF EVO is also available as a frameset in electric or mechanical versions priced £2,949. The Canyon website lists the earliest shipping dates for the new models as 27 February for the builds or 27 March for the framesets.
