Canadian outfit 7mesh have released a sneak preview of their Spring 2017 collection ahead of the official launch at Eurobike later this summer. The standout piece is the new Oro jacket, which 7mesh claim is cycling's first sub-100g GORE-TEX waterproof.

In the Oro, 7mesh believe they've achieved the 'holy grail' of wet weather gear: genuinely waterproof breathable protection that smashes the 100 gram barrier.

Gabba killer? 7mesh say the Oro is cycling's first sub-100g jacket.

Constructed from GORE-TEX® Active fabric, the Oro Jacket dispenses with a face fabric in favour of a permanent beading surface. Performance and weight-tuning details include a directly laminated zipper, welded raw hem edge, 360 degree reflectivity, and multipurpose vents and pocket.

The result is a jacket with a claimed weight of just 97 grams for a size large - equal to two slices of bread (unbuttered). Weight weenies, rev up your credit cards now...

Alongside the Oro jacket, the new collection includes the Highline - a lightweight jersey designed for endurance rides.

"The new 7mesh Highline Jersey is purpose-built for moving quickly, packing light and travelling far," say 7mesh.

"Made from a unique ultralight stretch woven nylon, the Highline is constructed with ultrasonic taped seams and minimalistic 6mm stretch seam tape for an all-in weight of only 107gm. With five rear pockets, a full front zip, and a shape cut for aggressive riding, the Highline is the choice for times when hot weather performance without bulk is paramount."

Like every 7mesh product, these new designs have been prototyped in the 7mesh R&D facility and thoroughly tested on the roads and trails of British Columbia's Coast Mountains. Our testers loved the Women's Resistance Jacket and  Synergy Jersey from 7mesh's 2016 range, so we'll do our best to get hold of samples of the new kit and let you know how it performs.
