Tennis star Novak Djokovic has been banned from riding his bike around the Wimbledon grounds.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Djokovic enjoys cycling around the All England Club as part of his preparations for the championships which begin today. However, after a near miss with a supply vehicle last week the world number one was reportedly approached by a Wimbledon official and asked to stop cycling on site for his own safety.

Djokovic is a keen cyclist and has been photographed in the past riding a mountain bike on Wimbledon Common during the championships. In 2013 he posted pictures on Twitter of a cycling training session in the mountains before competing in China.

The Serb is also a fan of professional road cycling, and spoke out in 2013 of his disappointment following Lance Armstrong's doping confession.

"I think it's a disgrace for the sport to have an athlete like this," Djokovic said in the wake of Armstrong's interview with Oprah Winfrey.

"It would be ridiculous for him to decline and refuse all the charges because it has been proven. He cheated many people around the world with his career, with his life story."

Djokovic begins his Wimbledon title defence today against Briton James Ward.
