Taking place Sunday 29 May 2016, Motion in Mercia is a well established sportive that takes in historic landmarks of the Industrial Revolution as well as quiet country roads.

In 2015, organisers Kilo To Go moved Motion in Mercia to a new setting in the beautiful environs of Weston Park. It provides for a great backdrop to the event, with plenty of on-site parking and instant access to the surrounding countryside.

For 2016, they've made some improvements to the routes, and the sportive is now part of a weekend of activities for the whole family, hosted by ADRIA and Experience Freedom.

Three sportive route options are on offer: Ultra (2,000m ascent), Chapeau and Espresso. The Ultra route is 100 miles in length, the Chapeau is 80 miles and the Espresso is 56 miles.

Weston Park, where the event is based, is regularly used to host large events. Parking is available for thousands of vehicles, and road access is good: the park is 10 minutes from the M6 and less from the M54. Weston Park is positioned to the east of Shifnal and close to Wolverhampton and Birmingham.

Route changes for 2016

Straight out of the new HQ, the routes now access wonderful countryside and climbs south of Bridgnorth, like Clee Hill and really showcase why Mercia got the world in motion!

Bridgnorth (once one of the largest European river ports) and the Severn Railway determine the route to the Clee Hill climb (right at the southern end of the Ultra route) before turning north and heading for Much Wenlock (Olympic Games site). After the long descent down Gleedon Hill the route heads north to the climb over The Wrekin and then on through Ironbridge (first iron built bridge that denotes the start of the Industrial Revolution) before heading for home.

Fuel your ride

There are three feed stations in-place on the Ultra route, two on the Chapeau route and one on the Espresso. Tasty sandwiches and cakes from Chatwin's family bakers, plus plenty of sports nutrition from HIGH5 are all available.

Riders who enter at least 8 weeks before the event will get a free HIGH5 water bottle filled with various sports nutrition (worth over £10) that includes a recovery drink - perfect for immediate use at the finish line!
