The Maserati Tour de Yorkshire Ride is back for 2016, and entries are now open.

The sportive takes place on Sunday 1 May, the third and final day of the Tour de Yorkshire pro race. A new course has been designed for 2016, starting and finishing by the sea in Scarborough with a stunning route through the Yorkshire moors.

Choose from three distances: 40km, 85km and 119km. Provisional details of the 115km route are now up on the website, so check out the maps for a taste of what's in store (clue: hills).

David Millar is ambassador for the sportive and was treated to an early look at the long route.

"At 119km and a 1056m total elevation gain this is a hard, yet not ridiculous, route," he commented, "offering something for the novice as well as the seasoned campaigner."

The route takes in a large variety of Yorkshire's scenery which impressed Millar: "Should it be windy on the day the ever changing direction will avoid the boredom of a relentless headwind, and the interesting route takes in a bit of everything, from seaside to dale."

Riders taking on the 119km route will face a number of climbs including testing inclines at Harwood Dale, Dalby Forest and Oliver's Mount. Organisers have used feedback from 2015 to make improvements, including extending cut-off times and reducing the most challenging distance. Those who would rather take on a shorter ride can choose from 40 or 85km options.

Entries for last year's inaugural Tour de Yorkshire sportive sold out in hours, so don't hang about if you want a place! Prices range from £45 for the short route ballot to £62 for guaranteed entry (rather than ballot) for the long route.
