Overcast skies couldn't dampen spirits at last year's inaugural Maserati Tour de Yorkshire Ride - and after that spectacular debut, the sportive will return on Sunday 1 May 2016 with a brand new route starting and finishing in Scarborough. Organised by Human Race Events in conjunction with ASO and Welcome to Yorkshire, the sportive will give amateur riders the chance to tackle parts of the Tour de Yorkshire route just hours before their heroes.

Riders will be able to select from three distance options of 40, 85 and 115km with each containing aspects of Stage 3 of the Tour de Yorkshire pro race which concludes on the same day. After completing a stunning ride participants will cross the Tour de Yorkshire finish line which is sure to provide an unforgettable atmosphere.

The Maserati Tour de Yorkshire Ride gives cyclists of all abilities a chance to test themselves on the same roads as the pros.

After heading off from a bespoke Maserati start line in Scarborough riders will join the same route as the pros in Harwood Dale. Here they will take on Cote de Harwood Dale, allowing them the opportunity to climb this testing section whilst legs are still fresh. The medium and long routes will then continue into the North York Moors National Park and Dalby Forest. This wonderful section is well known from Stage 1 of the inaugural Tour de Yorkshire and will include the Cote de Dalby Forest.

Those hardy enough to attempt the longest route will be treated to another spectacular climb, Cote de Oliver's Mount, which is the last classified climb that the professionals will ride on the same day. Sportive riders will do this in the opposite direction to their pro counterparts before cycling towards the coast. Before reaching the seafront they will pass the 'arrivée fictive' (the neutral finish) where timing will end.

After this it's a leisurely ride along the coast and then on to cross the official Tour de Yorkshire finish line, where the awaiting crowds of thousands will cheer them home. A packed programme of other activities are planned for the day which will be announced in the weeks leading up to the event.

Last year all 6,000 places for the Tour de Yorkshire Ride sold out in just a few hours. Riders who would like to apply for a place in the event this May should pre-register their details now at www.humanrace.co.uk/register-interest to be the first to hear when entries are open; entries are expected to become available in early February.
